Solving Inequalities
by: Karin

In this application, I cannot type a less than or equal to sign. Therefore, I will use the less than symbol, but please note that we will consider it the less than or equal to symbol.

-6< 3x -15< 12

We want to isolate the variable, so we will add 15 to both sides.

-6+15 <3x - 15+15 < 12+ 15

9 <3x< 27

Now we need to divide everything by 3 to isolate x.

9/3 < 3x/3 <27/3

3 < x < 9

You end up with 3 is less than or equal to x and x is less than or equal to 9.

This means that x is greater than or equal to 3 but less than or equal to 9.

Hope this helps,
Karin
